A Warehouse Management System (WMS) provides structure and control over warehouse operations. In direct FOOD, it handles put-away, stock counts, transfers and picking while keeping ERP updated in real time with quantities and locations. Items are organised across multiple warehouses, zones and storage locations, ensuring logistics align perfectly with production needs.

The WMS module supports the entire material flow from goods receipt to workstation and ensures that production orders always have the required materials in the right place at the right time.

Quality control and traceability at goods receipt

Smooth material flow starts with an accurate goods receipt process. WMS in direct FOOD records incoming goods against purchase orders and verifies batch numbers, serial numbers, best-before dates and any quality requirements before storage. If goods require extra checks or lack labels, the system supports label printing and quarantine storage.

For example, a delivery of sensitive components can be registered via PDA, labelled with batch details and moved to quarantine for inspection before release to production.

Dispatch in direct FOOD

The WMS in direct FOOD manages dispatch and picking directly against sales orders with full dimension control of batch, serial numbers and shelf life according to FIFO and FEFO principles. Finished goods are stored in defined warehouse locations and identified through QR labels and barcode scanning using handheld PDA devices.

The system controls the selection of pickable batches and serial numbers based on availability, expiration date and defined picking strategies and manages item or batch-level restrictions as well as maturation time before release for picking. During picking, dispatch pallets are built continuously and a transport label is generated upon completion. All movements are updated to the ERP system and completion of the sales order ensures correct inventory status, documentation and full traceability throughout the supply chain.
