direct FMS

Printer Control

  • Automatic printer control via the control system direct FMS
  • The printer control module manages label flow
  • RFID and barcodes guarantee effective identification and tracking
  • Correct labelling of goods, packages and packaging
  • Reduce manual handling and mislabelling
  • Label printing is managed by material flow and positioning within the facility

With printer control in direct FMS, labelling is triggered automatically by events in the material flow. The system communicates directly with printers and equipment, ensuring that label data is accurately assigned according to order, location, and product status within the facility, whether labelling occurs in warehouse flow, on packing lines, or as part of the manufacturing process.

Automated printer control in manufacturing operations

direct FMS functions as the link between warehouse control, transport and label printing. The system ensures that each label is printed at the correct place and time – when the product passes defined points or when an event is triggered in the flow, either via direct communication with PLCs or with higher-level control systems.

All control is automatic, and labelling is event-driven rather than manually triggered. This reduces the need for manual operation and the risk of mislabelling. Printer control supports barcodes, RFID and variable data – linked to the product and supporting both border and location.

Seamless integration and flexibility

Printer control in direct FMS is integrated with existing printers and automation equipment. The system retrieves data from ERP, WMS or other systems and sends the correct label data to the appropriate printer based on the product's current location and its next destination. This ensures labelling follows the product throughout the flow without manual intervention.

You gain control over which products are labelled, how they are labelled and when – without manual choices or intervention in the process.

Product labelling and label control

The solution supports both D-pack and F-pack labelling, ensuring that finished goods and packaging always have accurate, up-to-date information. Product data, such as batch number, date, serial number and customer information, is automatically applied based on data linked to the product within the flow.

Printer control can also be used to label products during the flow, ensuring that identification and traceability are maintained throughout the facility.

Full Traceability with Automated Labelling

Label information can be traced throughout the entire value chain. From initial labelling to the finished packaged product, all label data is recorded digitally. This provides traceability across locations, orders and handling points, ensuring that requirements and specifications are met.

direct FMS – Integrated control system for labelling

Printer control is a natural part of direct FMS, which serves as the control system linking machines, printers and distribution lines. AMS AS has extensive experience tailoring the solution to different needs and delivers systems that ensure labelling is performed correctly, at the right time and in the right place within the workflow.

With printer control in direct FMS, you get event-driven labelling based on material flow, reducing errors, eliminating manual processes and ensuring correct labelling at all stages.
