direct FMS

Automated Warehouse Control

  • direct FMS acts as the control centre between ERP, warehouse and logistics flow
  • Integrates picking areas, high-bay warehouses and automated systems
  • Real-time management of AGVs, conveyors, robots and packing lines
  • Dynamic logic that handles urgent orders and buffer zones
  • Better capacity utilisation and fewer errors in warehouse operations

As warehouses and distribution centres become more complex, simply collecting data is no longer enough – active control is essential. Automated warehouse control with direct FMS is a Warehouse Control System (WCS) that integrates ERP, warehouse systems, and transport equipment into a single platform. The system manages material flow from goods reception to storage, picking, and dispatch based on capacity, queues, and prioritisation.

Automated warehouse management in complex environments with direct FMS

Warehouses, distribution centres, and logistics facilities today manage a range of systems, including picking warehouses, crane warehouses, packing machines, and transport solutions. AGVs transport goods between zones, while conveyors move pallets and cartons to their designated locations. Printers and scanners ensure accurate labelling and identification, and buffer zones help manage variations in process speed.

direct FMS observes the overall operation and makes real-time decisions that maintain a stable flow. The system manages where goods are stored, when they are moved, and how they are routed through the facility. This prevents bottlenecks, enhances capacity utilisation, and ensures a warehouse or distribution centre operates more reliably.

The control centre that offers visibility and accuracy

direct FMS acts as the link between ERP and the warehouse. Orders and plans are automatically sent to machines and packing lines, while status updates and inventory reports are fed back in real time. Whereas other systems merely provide information, direct FMS actively manages operations: robots are assigned tasks, printers label goods in transit, and AGVs deliver items to the correct location based on demand and prioritisation.

Fixed plans rarely accommodate unexpected changes. Therefore, the approach is dynamic: urgent orders can be prioritised, goods can be directed to zones with available capacity and operators can override automation when necessary. Flow is continuously adjusted without halting operations.

Warehouse Control System

direct FMS is developed in Norway by AMS AS AS and is built on over 40 years of experience in machine integration. The system is vendor-neutral and communicates with PLCs, robots and equipment from various manufacturers. This enables a straightforward start – for example, with picking warehouses, AutoStore solutions and conveyors – and allows later expansion with high-bay warehouses or more sophisticated automation as needed.

With traceability at the batch and lot levels, real-time reporting, and high uptime, direct FMS gives you a solid foundation. The solution minimises manual handling and enhances control over material movement in the warehouse.

direct FMS from AMS AS is more than just a control system – it acts as the control layer for material flow and internal transport. With machine communication and real-time control, it ensures predictable flow and efficient capacity use in the facility.
