Automated internal transport at Joh. Johannson Kaffe
Joh. Johannson Kaffe in Vestby needed a reliable, end-to-end solution for managing internal logistics from coffee roasting and packaging to finished goods. The company chose direct FMS, developed by AMS AS, to coordinate and control the entire material flow within the factory.
direct FMS as the control system for all internal transport
Joh. Johannson Kaffe produces brands such as EVERGOOD and ALI Kaffe, which require precise handling throughout the manufacturing process, from raw coffee beans to the finished product. direct FMS serves as the plant’s control system and coordinates communication with machines and equipment. The solution plans and manages material flow throughout the coffee process, optimises production control and gathers the data needed for stable, efficient operation.
The system controls conveyors and roller tracks, manages machines and equipment, both directly and via PLCs, and communicates with sensors, photocells, and marking equipment. All internal transport is managed through a single platform, from goods receipt to finished goods handling, integrated with the ERP system to provide accurate, continuous production data.

Efficient material flow in the roastery
In the roastery, large volumes of coffee move continuously through production. direct FMS regulates movement between roasting, packaging and finished goods handling in real time, reducing stops and keeping the manufacturing process in steady operation without unnecessary interruptions.
This provides a fully automated material flow with minimal manual intervention, ensuring stable performance under sustained, high production loads.
A robust platform for further automation
direct FMS is developed by AMS AS, which has extensive experience with industrial control systems. The solution offers a scalable platform that can be adapted to new manufacturing and logistics requirements without significant changes to the existing infrastructure.

The result is a modern, sustainable manufacturing plant that combines high capacity, energy-efficient operations, and consistent quality in every batch.

How Much Coffee You Should Calculate
Calculating how much coffee you need can be done with a simple rule of thumb. A bag of filter coffee is usually 250 grams unless you've bought a larger bag. 250 grams of filter coffee equals about 4 litres of brewed coffee. The number of cups depends, of course, on the size of your cup, but we calculate about 20 cups per bag. Use about 60 grams of filter coffee per litre of water.
